Thank you for your interest in setting up lessons with Teacher Deng Tutors. If you are interested in setting up lessons for a group of people, please click the “Group Classes” tab above.
I offer three main tutoring options, all via Skype (I do set up in person lessons for those in the Pittsburgh area). I have found Skype to be a fantastic learning tool as it makes face to face interaction and teaching possible without the hassle of traveling to and from lessons each week. I am happy to tutor all ages and all skill levels. To set up a lesson, select a lesson option and a time from below and e-mail it to me at email@example.com. Thank you! I will provide instructions for payment after we have set up a lesson.
Option 1) Standard Lessons. These lessons are $30/hour and require a one hour lesson each week. Lessons can begin at any level of Chinese and are crafted to accommodate the learning pace of each individual student. Cheng and Tsui’s textbook, Integrated Chinese, will be used as a rough guide for structuring and pacing the lessons. Students will be given homework that should take approximately one hour to complete, and are expected to study and prepare for each new lesson. The first lesson is free, and lessons may be paid for individually for the first three months (after that a month’s commitment is expected).
Option 2) Supplemental Lessons. These lessons are also $30/hour and require a one hour lesson each week. Supplemental lessons are for students currently taking a Chinese course through school or another program. During these lessons, I address problems the student may face in class, review homework, help prepare for tests, and provide additional opportunities for conversation practice. The first lesson is free, and lessons may be paid for individually for the first three months (after that a month’s commitment is expected).
Option 3) Emergency Lessons. These lessons are $50/hour and may be taken as necessary. Emergency lessons are for students not enrolled in Standard or Supplemental lessons but who need last minute help preparing for an upcoming test or completing a writing assignment. They cost more as they can be arranged on shorter notice, can generally be conducted during hours I don’t normally tutor, and require extra preparation. The first lesson is not free, although if tutoring slots are still available $20 can be used on a future standard or supplemental lesson.
If you are interested in having multiple students take lessons together or meeting for more than one hour each week, indicate this in your e-mail and I can work on setting up a special rate.
